Jon used to get in trouble for doodling in class. Now he gets paid to doodle (and teach others how to doodle)... in class!
Jon received his BFA in Illustration at Ringling College of Art & Design in 2002. Before beginning his teaching career he worked as a freelance illustrator, then as a Character Artist at Animated Storyboards in New York City, a studio specializing in creating animatics for TV commercials.
He began his teaching carerr as a full-time faculty member in the Computer Animation department at the prestigious Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida, where he got paid to learn from the world's most gifted animation students... and sometimes teach them a thing or two. During his time at Ringling, he had the honor of overseeing the Visual Development process for 6 of the college's 14 (and counting) Student Academy Award winning animated short films. Many of his former students are currently working in some of the animation and gaming industry's top studios including Walt Disney Feature Animation, Pixar, DreamWorks Animation, Blue Sky Studios, Blizzard Entertainment, etc.
In 2016 Jon transitioned to Pennsylvania College of Art & Design to assist in the establishment of the Animation & Game Art department, for which he served as Department Chair for 5 years. Jon has written and/or taught courses in Visual Development, Story Development, Storyboarding, Life Drawing, Anatomy, Preproduction for Animation, and Illustration.
Currently, Jon is teaching as an adjunct professor at Moore College of Art & Design and working as a freelancer illustrator. Some of his recent projects include the "Mr. Dependable" mascot character design for Interstate Batteries, visual development art for the recently released animated feature film, Light of the World, and promotional artwork for Grammy and Dove award winning recording artist, Steven Curtis Chapman.
Jon prefers writing about himself in the third person with the intent giving greater credibility to his accomplishments.
